1. Everyone’s cost basis is different. What other people charge matters, but only to the customer. The more you focus on the customer, the less your fuzzy math is an obstacle
2. In order to get our heads around pricing we often turn to our accountants and bookkeepers who bring us a very accounting solution – factor overhead into pricing or at least our margin expectations (we call this BURDEN). We try to make every order a mini p&l which further confuses the issue.
3. We sell value. Price is a tool. If something was truly free to you, would you give it to the customer? You might lower the price out of GUILT but that is not why we are in business. Pricing according to what is fair is not a business choice. It’s human but wouldn’t be smarter to understand where price comes from?
